In case you missed it, Jewell was featured in the opinion section of Saturday’s Des Moines Register. 2007 is a year of celebration for the Stanhope community as this is the 50th year for Watermelon Day. A group of Stanhope residents is working to get a Stanhope State All County Softball Tournament started. Organizers are looking for two captains from each town to line up a team for the tournament. If you are willing to get involved, please contact Troy Johnson, Watermelon Day Committee Treasurer, 515-826-3253 or troyjohn@netins.net.

Young's Storage in Stanhope has agreed to do a traveling trophy that will be kept at the City Hall of the winning team. A website for the event has been created as well: stanhopestate.blogspot.com. This is a great way to play America’s game, get to know your neighbors, and have a lot of fun!
